COMPOSITION:
57% CABERNET FRANC, 43% MERLOT (INCLUDING FRUIT FROM
THE CARPENTER VINEYARD IN ST. HELENA)
WINEMAKING:
THE FRUIT WAS PUNCHED CAP FERMENTED AND BARREL AGED
FOR 39 MONTHS IN SELECTED FRENCH OAK BARRELS THEN
BLENDED PRIOR TO BOTTLING.
TASTING NOTES:
CEDAR-CIGAR BOX NOTES AROMATICALLY RIGHT UP FRONT WITH
HINTS OF CLASSIC SWEET CLOVE FROM THE FRANC AND A DEEP
ROSE. ON THE PALATE THE CLOVE, CEDAR MINGLES WITH BLACK
FRUITS AND A TOUCH OF PEPPER TO FORM A COMPLEX SPICY WINE
WITH A BORDEAUX LIKE MINERALITY ACCENTED BY CURRANTS,
POMEGRANATE AND BLACK PLUM. COMPLEX AND FULL BODIED,
YET BRIGHT WITH BIG SHOULDERS AND A LONG FINISH.
SPECIAL NOTE:
THIS IS ONLY THE FOURTH WINE I HAVE MADE IN THIS BLEND
DESIGN IN MY 38+ YEARS OF WINEMAKING. FOR THOSE THAT
HAVE FOLLOWED MY RESERVE TYPE CABERNET FRANCS AND
RESERVE MERLOTS SINCE THE EARLY 80'S THIS WILL REMIND
MANY. BUT DON’T EXPECT A GROCERY STORE MERLOT OR
SIMPLE CABERNET FRANC.
