 STEVEN TANZER'S  INTERNATIONAL WINE CELLAR

(A notorious low scoring Critic, his scores usually run from 3 to 5 points lower than WS and WA-Parker)

2009 pureCru Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Secret 7 Napa Valley
Opaque purple.  Deeply pitched aromas of cassis, candied cherry, mocha and licorice, with a spicy topnote.  Plush and expansive on the palate, offering intense dark fruit compote flavors that become smokier and spicier with aeration.  Supple tannins give shape to the finish, which strongly repeats the mocha note.  I find this wine surprisingly accessible.  (JR)

2010 pureCru Napa Valley Pinot Noir Giovanni's Vineyard Carneros
Bright ruby-red.  Oak-spiced aromas of black raspberry and cherry, with a smoky overtone.  Silky and pliant in the mouth, offering gently sweet red and dark berry flavors that show a touch of warmth toward the back.  Closes on a spicy note, with soft tannins and good length.

2010 pureCru Napa Valley Purety White Wine Napa Valley
(made from 52% sauvignon blanc and 48% semillon):  Pale gold.  High-pitched aromas of candied citrus fruits, pear skin, herbs and white flowers.  Juicy, tightly focused lemon and pear flavors are given a refreshingly bitter edge by a note of quinine.  Becomes spicier with air and finishes with good cut and length.

Napa Valley WINE OF THE WEEK: COUPLES & CO 2009 CHARDONNAY
"There is really no better way to describe the wine than to say it smells like fresh flowers and sky. . . this wine is bottled spring. . . This is not a big, oaky Napa Valley chardonnay, but a wine that lets the fresh fruit flavors stand out." Catherine Seda, St. Helena Star

“hey, mitch!”. . .“mitch, how ya doin’?”. . .“Got a second, Mitch?” Everyone at the PGA

A swing guru, perhaps? Or a guy who can get tickets to the Masters? Actually, he’s a winemaker.
